Here's how to "Tell a Story" to Answer an Interview Question
Job seekers and hiring managers alike face a unique challenge—particularly since interviewing has gone virtual. How do you build rapport through a screen? Storytelling makes you so much more memorable.
Try this formula:
PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE
Past: Tie your past work experience into a story. If you've followed a pretty linear career path, talk about the progression, and if you've pivoted, discuss what inspired your move.
Present: Where are you now? There's never been a more important time for authenticity on both sides of the interview table. Share your current role or your goals if you're unemployed.
Future: What contributions are you hoping to make in your career? Hiring managers need to see that your abilities, passions, and vision line up with the opening.
Try this strategy next time you want to highlight all you bring to the table—from past experience, to current passions, to future aspirations. Your interviewer will be impressed!
