A Note for Working Moms This Mother's Day Weekend
Mothers Day is this weekend--and we’re still observing holidays differently.
Traditionally, our Mothers Day tradition was to go to our local nursery, buy a bunch of gorgeous flowers like geraniums, lavender, petunias, and spend the afternoon planting flowers together. Then we’d enjoy a lovely meal together on the deck surrounded by beauty and nature.
However, this year our family looks a little different. I’m a newly single mom with four kids and two off in college--and we are preparing to move to a new house. So, planting doesn’t feel right this year.
But what feels very meaningful to me is the opportunity to celebrate in the way that resonates with me right now. This weekend, I’ll be taking a little quiet time by myself, (while my teenager gifts me a couple of hours of babysitting for my little one) and I will be planting some seeds for my future by writing it all down.
So often, as working parents, we attend to everyone else’s needs and don’t spend enough time on our own. So this year I’ll take some quiet time in nature (fingers crossed for no rain in Seattle) and just reflect.I’m excited as I have a beautiful canvas of a life that’s ready for it’s next layer.
Finally, I know I'm not alone. I'm part of the community of my family and friends and colleagues on this journey alongside me. I hope you'll come share your reflections right now at 1PM EST/ 10 AM PST. We're holding space for you to share about your journey as a working mom in the biotech industry.
